Université de Rennes, Rennes, France
The main research areas of our group are:
-Our work is devoted to understanding how perinatal chemical exposures affect brain development and neuroplasticity, with a focus on neuronal networks underlying a range of social behaviors (parental behavior, social play, reproductive behaviors) in males and females. We use an array of techniques, from molecular biology and biochemistry to histology and behavior, primarily in rodent models.
Experimental techniques you may learn during your program here:
Knowledge and analysis of varied techniques to assess neuroplasticity
Translational research using laboratory rodent models;
Laboratory techniques available;
The fellowship programme is tailored to the individual research interests, training needs, and career goals of each research fellow. The specific research theme and experimental techniques will be agreed upon prior to the fellowship to ensure that the training aligns with the fellow's objectives.
Throughout the programme, fellows will receive comprehensive hands-on training designed to enable them to perform relevant laboratory techniques independently. They will work closely with the supervisors and/or members of the research group, who will provide guidance on laboratory procedures, experimental protocols, troubleshooting, and the day-to-day operation of the laboratory.
Progress will be monitored through regular supervisory meetings, held weekly or bi-weekly, during which experimental results will be reviewed, progress evaluated, and future experiments planned. Fellows are expected to maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date records of all experimental work using the laboratory notebook provided.
In addition to laboratory training, fellows will be fully integrated into the academic life of the research group. They will be invited to participate in laboratory meetings, seminars, journal clubs, and other academic activities within the research team, institute, and university. Fellows will also be encouraged to present their research in a group seminar at least once during their visit, providing an opportunity to develop their scientific communication and presentation skills.
Towards the end of the fellowship, a final review meeting will be held to discuss the outcomes of the training and identify appropriate opportunities for dissemination of the work. Where sufficient data have been generated as part of a larger collaborative project, publication opportunities will be explored. Fellows may also receive advice on presenting their findings at scientific conferences and on identifying future research, training, or funding opportunities relevant to their career aspirations, either within their home institution or internationally.
We are committed to providing a supportive, inclusive, and stimulating research environment. Individual circumstances, challenges, and specific requests will be carefully considered throughout the fellowship to ensure an enjoyable and productive experience.
Prior to the start of the fellowship, we ask fellows to contact the supervisors to discuss research objectives, training expectations, and desired learning outcomes. Based on these discussions, an experimental plan with realistic milestones and timelines will be developed to maximise the value of the fellowship.
