Senses and Brain concerns in Neuro-otolaryngology

Link Campus University

Dr. Arianna Di Stadio, MD, PhD, is an accomplished clinician-scientist and Associate Professor of Otolaryngology with extensive international experience in audiology, neuro-otology, and neuroinflammatory disorders. She has held academic and clinical positions across leading institutions in Italy, the United Kingdom, France, and the United States, including University College London and Harvard Medical School. Her research focuses on the interface between hearing disorders and neurological diseases, particularly multiple sclerosis, neurodegeneration, and auditory pathway dysfunction. She has led and collaborated on numerous funded research projects and clinical trials, contributing significantly to advancements in tinnitus, hearing loss, and vestibular disorders. Dr. Di Stadio has an extensive publication record in high-impact journals and is actively involved in teaching, mentorship, and international scientific collaborations. Her work bridges translational research and clinical practice, aiming to improve diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in otolaryngology and neuroscience.

Dr. Arianna Di Stadio is a faculty member at Link University. She conducts this training program in his personal capacity and not as a representative of, or on behalf of Link University.

Programs will be conducted during the following periods: May–June; September–October; February–March.

Main Areas of Interest

  • Neuro-otolaryngology: Integration of ENT disorders with central nervous system pathways
  • Sensory disorders: Hearing and olfactory dysfunction in neurodegenerative diseases
  • Neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration (e.g., Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s)
  • Auditory and olfactory markers of cognitive decline and memory disorders
  • Inner ear–brain axis: Peripheral sensory organs as windows to brain health
  • Clinical and neurofunctional assessment of hearing and olfactory disorders
  • Differentiation of central vs peripheral sensory pathway dysfunction
  • Use of olfactory testing methods (e.g., Sniffin’ Sticks, UPSIT) and audiological evaluation
  • Neuroimaging interpretation (MRI) in sensory and neurodegenerative disorders
  • Therapeutic approaches: olfactory training, neuroinflammation modulation, and rehabilitation strategies

1. Foundations of Neuro-Otolaryngology
Concept of neuro-otolaryngology; integration of ENT with neurology; peripheral vs central pathways

2. Sensory Systems & Brain Connections
Auditory and olfactory pathways; link between sensory dysfunction and cognition/memory

3. Neuroinflammation & Neurodegeneration
Role of sensory symptoms in MS, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s; early diagnostic markers

4. Clinical Assessment & Diagnostics
Olfactory and auditory testing, imaging (MRI), and differential diagnosis approaches

5. Therapeutics & Translational Applications
Management of Long-COVID smell loss, rehabilitation, and the “inner ear as a window to the brain” concept.

Total Number of Modules 5
Total Program Cost $650.00
