The BARI Personalised Arthroplasty Fellowship programme offers comprehensive training in adult hip and knee joint reconstruction surgery using modern, personalised techniques. This is a full-time position based in a high-volume surgical centre, under the direct supervision of Dr Charles Rivière. Fellows are required to participate in both clinical care (with Dr. Rivière and Dr. Villet) and research science.
This is a fulltime position, with 3 days per week allocated to theatre and 2 days allocated to research (remote or office-based). There is a monthly complex clinical cases MDT, for which fellows are expected to prepare and present patients. We have an established patient data registry, lending to plenty of research opportunities. Fellows are required to undertake a clinical research project in the field of lower limb arthroplasty, with the expectation that a minimum of 1 paper per 3 months should be completed. We have a number of ongoing projects meaning immediate participation is possible, and this will be in collaboration with Dr Rivière and our clinical research coordinator.
We can also accommodate a Research Fellowship with optional operating room (OR) observership, supported by our established patient data registry that offers extensive research opportunities. The fellow will devote five days per week to research activities, with the possibility of attending the OR for observational experience. Participation in OR sessions and multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings is optional.
Both Drs. Rivière and Villet are high-volume arthroplasty surgeons, performing approximately 500 cases/year. They have extensive experience in patient-specific alignment surgery, namely using the kinematic alignment technique. Fellows will gain experience in personalised primary total hip arthroplasty, hip resurfacing, total knee arthroplasty and unicompartmental knee arthroplasty, performed using a variety of surgical approaches, with tailored implant selection, along with the incorporation of modern surgical tools. Dr Rivière additionally performs complex revision arthroplasty surgery including periprosthetic infection, presenting additional comprehensive learning opportunities.
