Robotic Neuropelveology & Advanced Urological Surgery – Bordeaux, France

Clinique Tivoli-Ducos — Department of Urology and Robotic Surgery

Located in Bordeaux, France, this fellowship offers advanced, immersive training in robotic neuropelveology, urological reconstruction for endometriosis-related pelvic disease, and robot-assisted urological oncology.

It is directed by Dr Olivier Celhay, certified in Neuropelveology at Level 3 by the International Society of Neuropelveology (ISON, August 2026) and a member of the ISON Governance Board. Fellows join a high-volume robotic practice where oncological, functional and nerve-decompression surgery are performed by the same team.

Deep endometriosis surgery with IFEMEndo

The unit works closely with IFEMEndo (Institut Franco-Européen Multidisciplinaire d'Endométriose), based in the same hospital: Prof. Horace Roman, Dr Benjamin Merlot and Dr Thomas Dennis. Fellows attend, and where their level and licensing allow assist in, complex deep endometriosis procedures involving the sacral plexus, the sciatic and superior gluteal nerves, the ureter and the rectum, operated jointly by the gynaecological and urological teams. This dual exposure is the distinctive feature of the programme.

Ongoing clinical research

Two prospective studies are recruiting and open to fellow involvement: X-DECO (NCT06578767), robot-assisted decompression of the pudendal and inferior cluneal nerves for entrapment neuralgias, 200 patients; and REGEN (NCT06796595), a perioperative programme to optimise nerve regeneration after robot-assisted neurolysis.

Duration: 1 to 12 weeks (4-week visiting fellowship by default)
Language: English / French
Target: Urologists, gynaecologists or pelvic surgeons with prior laparoscopic experience

Main Areas of Interest

  • Robotic neuropelveology (pudendal, inferior cluneal and sacral root decompression; lumbosacral plexus neurolysis)
  • Robotic excision of deep endometriosis involving pelvic somatic nerves, with the IFEMEndo team
  • Robotic urological reconstruction in endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain
  • Robotic urological oncology (prostate, bladder, kidney)
  • HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) for prostate and functional disorders
  • BPH surgery (robotic simple prostatectomy, HoLEP, BipoLEP)
  • 2 Da Vinci X Robots (dual-console access for fellows)
  • HIFU system (Focal One® platform)
  • HoLEP / Bipolar Enucleation (BipoLEP)
  • Pelvic urodynamic

Clinical exposure

  • Daily participation in robotic surgery: neuropelveology, radical prostatectomy, cystectomy, partial nephrectomy
  • Deep endometriosis lists run jointly with the IFEMEndo team (Prof. Roman, Dr Merlot, Dr Dennis), including nodules involving the sacral plexus, the sciatic and superior gluteal nerves, the ureter and the rectum
  • Structured pre- and postoperative evaluation, including the Nantes criteria and image-guided diagnostic nerve blocks
  • Dedicated neuropelveology outpatient clinic

Academic and research activity

  • Weekly multidisciplinary meetings (urology, gynaecology, pain medicine, radiology)
  • Possible involvement in the X-DECO (NCT06578767) and REGEN (NCT06796595) protocols and their resulting publications
  • Support for surgical video editing and submission - the unit publishes its techniques as peer-reviewed video abstracts
  • Presentation opportunities at international meetings (EAU, ISON, ESGE)
  • Recent unit publications: J Minim Invasive Gynecol 2024;31(8):638-9; 2025;33(2):160-1; 2025;33(4):375-6; 2026;33(6):679-80; Urology Video Journal 2025. Full references in the Q&A section (ORCID 0000-0003-1745-5397)

Questions and Answers

Commonly asked questions about this program from the host and other attendees.

Will I be able to operate, or is the fellowship observational?

Fellows are primarily observers at the console side. Scrubbing in and assisting is possible case by case, depending on your level, your home-country licensure and the patient's consent. The programme does not confer operating rights in France.
