The Portuguese Society of Cardiology (SPC) had the privilege of having Professor Carlos Ribeiro (1926-2021) as one of its most brilliant and distinguished members. The ethical approach he took to medicine, the pedagogical importance he attributed to research in postgraduate medical training, and the institutional sense with which he led the SPC and fostered its internationalization, make him one of the most notable and influential figures in the history of our institution.
His academic brilliance, his solid humanistic background, and his pioneering vision on various dimensions of medicine made him a man ahead of his time. The creation of this Prize symbolizes the SPC's respect, admiration, and gratitude for the life and work of Professor Carlos Ribeiro, but also the wish that the knowledge of this illustrious and distinguished cardiologist may continue to inspire all SPC members.
