About the scholarship
Every year, the EUSP Board contacts host centres about research projects that future scholars can undertake. Alternatively, applicants can also submit their own project proposals.
EAU supports excellence in urology across clinical, translational, and surgical research, as well as education and nursing practice improvement.
Funded initiatives must align with EAU themes—including bladder, prostate, kidney, oncology, reconstruction, and health system impact across Europe.
• EAU Research Foundation Career Development Programme
Targets early PIs transitioning toward independence, with 3 years of mentorship-backed funding.
Success predictors: scientific excellence, translational relevance, institutional commitment, and alignment with EAU RF trial networks (e.g. NIMBUS, EASE).
• Short Visit Grants (~€2,000)
For urologists under 40 to spend 2–3 weeks at a European centre of excellence.
Top candidates are EAU members (≥6 months), present a convincing plan, and commit to a published follow-up report.
• Clinical Visit Grants (up to €4,000)
Support 6‑week to 3‑month training at EU clinical centres.
Requires EAU membership for ≥6 months, and being a qualified or trainee urologist under 40.
• EAU Awards (at Annual Congress)
These recognize top research abstracts presented at EAU Congress and are featured in the Congress Award Gallery and journal European Urology.
All applicants must be active EAU members, and EAUN-specific grants require EAUN membership.
Success is higher among professionals who engage in EAU committees, present at Congress, or participate in sections like ESGURS or ESAU.
Reviewers look for novelty, clarity, rigorous methods, feasibility, and clear aims or endpoints.
Translational relevance—for example, clinical trials or registry contributions—is favored in EAU‑RF proposals.
EAU grants and fellowships that include cross-institutional or international engagement, especially in registries or trials across Europe, are more competitive.
Including measured promotional language when describing novelty and impact may meaningfully increase funder support, according to empirical studies.
Observe strict age (<40 for travel grants), membership duration, submission deadlines (e.g. abstract April 2025 for Congress awards), and report commitments.
Example: EAUN Research Project plans are due ~1 December, with presentation and prize awarded at the March International EAUN Meeting.
| EAU Program | Who It’s For | Key Success Predictors |
|---|---|---|
| EAU‑RF Career Development | Early-career PIs transitioning to independence | Strong translational vision, institutional support, track record, alignment with trial networks |
| Short Visit Grant (~€2,000) | Urologists <40 visiting EU centre | EAU membership, detailed visit plan, reporting commitment |
| Clinical Visit Grant (~€4,000) | Trainee or qualified urologists <40 | Institutional letter, clear learning objectives, EAU member ≥6 months |
| EAU Awards at Annual Congress | First authors of submitted abstracts | High-quality abstract, manuscript submission to European Urology, in-person presentation |
Join EAU or EAUN and participate in its sections or meetings early.
Identify relevant funding stream (visit, research, nursing grant) and tailor accordingly.
Craft concise, impact-oriented proposals, using promotional language thoughtfully to convey innovation.
Plan follow-up actions, such as abstract presentation or publication in European Urology Today.
Leverage patient registries or multinational studies for greater impact (especially for EAU RF projects).
