Most participants rated the Respiratory Critical Care Fellowship program 5/5, reflecting its profound impact on their professional and academic growth. The fellowship is highly praised for its outstanding mentorship, plentiful research opportunities, and beneficial networking opportunities.
I am pleased to inform you that my fellowship at Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, under the guidance of Dr. Carlos Ferrando, has started very positively. The team has been exceptionally welcoming, and the clinical exposure so far has been both enriching and inspiring.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the three-month
Respiratory Critical Care Fellowship at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. It was a great privilege to be part of
such a prestigious institution, and to learn from mentors who are not only highly qualified but also
deeply committed to excellence in care and education.
The highlight of my experience was undoubtedly the exposure to cutting-edge clinical practice in a
world-renowned academic setting. I found the program intellectually stimulating and appreciated the
structured approach to complex respiratory cases.
That said, I would like to offer some constructive feedback. One challenge I encountered was the
language barrier. Although I had some background in Spanish, I was not aware beforehand that the day-
to-day clinical discussions, especially ward rounds, would occur primarily in Catalan. This made it initially
difficult to follow along and fully engage. I believe that setting clear expectations about the working
language in advance would be helpful for future international fellows.
From a logistical standpoint, I found the process of obtaining a Schengen Visa straightforward, and there
was no shortage of accommodation in the area surrounding the hospital. The accessibility of the hospital
via the Metro made commuting easy and reliable.
Overall, I would rate my experience a 3.8 out of 5. While there were some challenges, particularly with
language, I am grateful for the experience and the knowledge gained during my time at the Hospital
Clínic.
Thank you again for this opportunity.
