Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Colorectal Cancer Prevention and Autoimmune Liver Disorders

Dr. Tugrul Purnak, is an Associate Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at McGovern Medical School. He is a board-certified gastroenterologist with specialized expertise in transplant hepatology and advanced endoscopy.

His clinical focus includes the management of complex liver diseases, particularly autoimmune hepatitis, biliary disorders, inflammatory bowel diseases and cirrhosis.  Dr. Purnak’s research interests center on the diagnosis and medical management of liver diseases, inflammatory bowel diseases with contributions to international collaborations and gastroenterology societies.

Dr. Tugrul Purnak is a faculty member at  McGovern Medical School. He conducts this training program in his personal capacity and not as a representative of, or on behalf of,  McGovern Medical School. 

 Programs will be conducted during the following periods: May–June; September–October; February–March.

  • Biologic therapies (anti-TNF, integrin inhibitors, IL inhibitors)
  • Small molecules (JAK inhibitors, S1P modulators)
  • Personalized and treat-to-target strategies

Endoscopic and Surveillance Strategies
 

  • Colonoscopic evaluation in IBD
  • Dysplasia detection and surveillance protocols
  • Early detection and prevention of colorectal cancer

Autoimmune Liver Diseases in GI Practice
 

  • Autoimmune hepatitis, PBC, PSC: diagnosis and management
  • Overlap syndromes and systemic autoimmune associations
  • Integration of hepatology in GI care
