Applied Clinical Neurology and Medico-Legal Practice

Prof. Roy G. Beran AM, MD, MBBS, FRACP, FRCP(Edin), FAAN is a distinguished neurologist, accredited sleep physician, and leading authority in medico-legal and public health matters. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he served in direct clinical practice, pioneering clinical research and trials within private neurological settings, and contributing extensively to epilepsy, concussion, stroke, and neuroepidemiology literature. He has published over 400 scientific papers and book chapters, presented at more than 450 international conferences, and edited 17 books. Prof. Beran has held prominent academic appointments, including Conjoint Professor at the University of New South Wales and roles at Griffith and Western Sydney Universities, and has served in leadership positions with the World Association for Medical Law and the Australasian College of Legal Medicine. A former Commander in the Royal Australian Navy Reserve and a Member of the Order of Australia, he is now retired from direct clinical practice and focuses on consulting, speaking engagements, and academic contributions.

·       Legal Medicine, Ethics, and Medical Education: Leadership in medical law and ethics, expert medico-legal practice, and postgraduate medical education, bridging clinical neurology with legal, regulatory, and public health frameworks.

  • Evaluate Brain Injury: Assess concussion and traumatic brain injury, guide recovery planning, and document outcomes appropriately.
  • Integrate Sleep and Neurology: Recognize and manage sleep-related neurological disorders and their impact on neurological disease.
  • Apply Medico-Legal Principles: Produce structured medico-legal reports and apply ethical and legal frameworks to neurological practice.
