Hope APFED/AAAAI Grant Award

American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI)

The 2026 Hope APFED/AAAAI Grant Award was established to allow investigators from a variety of disciplines to initiate new projects relevant to Eosinophilic Disorders, excluding asthma, rhinitis and eczema. Successful applications will focus on the development of new ideas which are likely to lead to future external funding.

The 2026 Hope APFED/AAAAI Grant Award is a collaborative award program between the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) and the American Partnership for Eosinophilic Disorders (APFED). The award program is administered by the AAAAI and equally funded by each Association. 

What support does the award provide?

The 2026 Hope APFED/AAAAI Grant Award provides a total of $140,000 paid out in four equal payments of $35,000 over two years. Continuation into the second year for the grant is subject to demonstrating satisfactory progress through an annual report. The full award term is July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2028.

Financial Conditions:

  1. The grant may be used for the purchase of supplies and services directly related to the approved research endeavors.
  2. Award funds may be used for the salary and fringe benefit costs of personnel other than the applicant. Fringe benefit costs may only be expended upon the stipulation that they not be obtained from another source.
  3. Funds may not be used for institutional indirect costs or to acquire administrative or clerical support.
  4. No more than 30% of the total award budget may be used to fund the purchase of permanent equipment.
  5. Overhead or indirect costs are not permitted.
  6. No award funds shall be used for the purchase of furniture, computers, the construction or renovation of facilities, payment of honoraria or membership dues, purchase of textbooks or periodicals or payment for secretarial support.


Other Conditions:

  1. A progress and a financial report will be requested after the first year of the award and are required to be submitted on time for determination of continuation of the award into the second year.
  2. Recipient will submit a final report at the end of the second-year outlining project results and anticipated next steps.
  3. Recipient should plan to make a presentation of their project status and results at both the EOS Connection Annual Conference and AAAAI Annual Meeting one of the years they will be the recipient of grant funding.
    1. A maximum of $1,000 per year of the grant award should be set aside for the travel expenses for this/these conference/meetings.

Citizenship:

At the time of application, candidates must be United States citizens or foreign nationals holding one of the following visa immigration statuses:

  1. Permanent resident (Green Card),
  2. Exchange visitor (J-1),
  3. Temporary worker in a specialty occupation (H-1, H-1B),
  4. Canadian or Mexican citizen engaging in professional activities (TC or TN),
  5. Temporary worker with extraordinary abilities in the sciences (O-1).
  6. Non-citizens must submit a notarized copy of proof of possession of a Green Card or J-1, H-1, H-1B, TC, TN or O-1 visas.

At the time of application and throughout the award, an applicant/recipient must be employed by a U.S. institution.

Deadline:

Applications must be submitted in a single pdf file by October 31, 2025, 3:00 pm CT. Applicants will be notified regarding status of their application in January 2026.

Selection:

Review and decision will be made by a Joint Review Committee of equal representatives from APFED and AAAAI.

  2. MD, DO, Nursing Doctorate, PhD, or MD/PhD
  3. Full-time faculty appointment as an instructor or higher level in an allergy section or division at a medical school in the United States
    1. Priority will be given to applicants at or below the rank of associate professor.
  4. Applicants must be independent, self-directed researchers for whom their institution must provide space and other resources customary for independent investigators.
    1. The application must convey the commitment of the institution to the applicant and the proposed research activities.

Applicants from institutions that do not have accreditation from the AAALAC, USDA and/or IACUC are not eligible to apply.
