American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology

This mentored award provides up to $300,000 in funding over a three-year period and is intended to support the development of careers in allergy/immunology (A/I). Multiple awards will be made to further the development of junior faculty into independent investigators by funding excellent research that leads to the prevention and cure of asthma and allergic and immunologic diseases.

The AAAAI Foundation is especially interested in funding health equity research as it applies to allergy and immunology, as well as research that promotes awareness of diversity and inclusivity within the field of A/I

This is an especially strong AAAAI Foundation predictor.

The Foundation reports that its initial support has been followed by nearly $143 million in federal grants to its award recipients since 1993.

Its Award to Sustain Research Excellence (Bridge Award) is explicitly designed to strengthen a revised or planned five-year R01 application and requires applicants to explain how the Foundation funding will increase the competitiveness of the R01.

Eligibility Requirements

Must be board certified in A/I by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI) or hold the equivalent certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).

• At the time of Letter of Intent, applicant must be no more than 5 years post the ACGME mandated training program requirement of two years in A/I.

• Primary faculty appointment must be in the discipline of A/I and the applicant needs to have a current mentor. • One of the following degrees: MD, MD/PhD, DO, DO/PhD.

• Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada.

Applicants must be AAAAI members or submit a membership application prior to submitting a Letter of Intent. If awarded, you must retain your AAAAI membership during your award cycle.

• No program can have more than two active Foundation Faculty Development Awards.

• A sponsoring university or institution that has multiple A/I training programs cannot have more than three active awards.
