Objective
To support the development of an academic food allergy research career of a third or fourth-year allergy/immunology fellow-in-training or gastroenterology fellow-in-training in the specialty of food allergy and immunology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Funding is to support education and research endeavors in food allergy.

Amount
This award will provide $130,000 in salary plus fringe benefits. This one-year award starts July 1, 2027, thru June 30, 2028. Funds may not be used for institutional indirect costs.

Selection
Made by the AAAAI Grant Review Committee (to include representatives from Mount Sinai) and the AAAAI Board of Directors. Priority will be given to those applicants who document a career plan for obtaining future research funding such as an NIH K23 award, VA merit award or a private foundation equivalent.

Receipt of this award does not preclude the applicant from obtaining grant support from other sources.

Terms
Support from the AAAAI Elliot and Roslyn Jaffe Third-Year Fellowship Food Allergy Research Award is to be acknowledged in presentations and publications resulting from the research sponsored by the award.

The award recipient is directly responsible as an employee to Mount Sinai. Mount Sinai is responsible for documenting its role in terms of supporting education and research efforts as well as providing adequate research capacity, including space and equipment, for the award recipient.

The award is nontransferable.

The AAAAI may discontinue an award if it is documented that the purpose or the terms of the award are not being fulfilled. In this event, the recipient will be notified in writing of this determination, the reason, and the effective date.

The recipient must submit a final written progress report to the AAAAI, including disposition of funds. It is also expected that the recipient will present the results of his/her research at an AAAAI Annual Meeting.

Eligibility Requirements

This award is directed toward a third or fourth-year fellow in training (MDs, MD/PhDs, DOs, DO/PhDs) who is either certified or on track toward certification by the ABAI, or the ABP or ABIM gastroenterology specialty boards. Applicants must conduct their research at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Applicants must be an AAAAI In-training member. Applicants from outside Mount Sinai are encouraged to apply. Applicants must contact a member of the Mt. Sinai faculty well in advance of the application deadline to discuss the feasibility of the proposed research being conducted and the resources available at Mt. Sinai. For all applicants, a faculty member at Mt. Sinai must be identified who will provide mentorship during the project, and a letter of recommendation must be provided by that mentor. If it is anticipated that more than one year will be required to complete the project, the applicant must indicate the sources of funding to cover the period beyond the one-year fellowship.
