The Eppendorf & Science Prize for Neurobiology acknowledges the increasing importance of research in advancing our understanding of how the brain and nervous system function. This international prize is intended to encourage and support the work of promising young neurobiologists who are not older than 35 years. The Prize will be awarded annually to one young scientist for the most outstanding neurobiological research based on methods of molecular, cellular, systems, or organismic biology conducted during the past three (3) years. The entrant must have actively performed or directed laboratory work described in the essay.
The winner of the Eppendorf & Science Prize for Neurobiology is awarded US$25,000 and publication of the winning essay in Science. The essay and those of up to three finalists are also published on Science Online. The award is announced and presented at a ceremony held in conjunction with the meeting of the Society for Neuroscience. Eppendorf provides financial support to enable the awardees to attend the prize ceremony.

👉 Projects confined to a narrow discipline are generally less competitive.
👉 Projects with policy relevance or implementation pathways score highly.
👉 Ability to communicate science clearly is a major advantage.
👉 Equity and access components significantly improve competitiveness.
👉 Incremental work is less competitive.
👉 AAAS values “scientific leaders,” not just technical expertise.
👉 Community integration strengthens applications.
👉 Highly theoretical proposals without actionable outcomes are less competitive.
AAAS places strong emphasis on:
👉 Broader impact is often weighted as heavily as scientific merit.
👉 Ethics-aware proposals are increasingly favored.
👉 Global applicability improves competitiveness.
