Mission

The mission statement of the Shock Society is to improve the care of victims of trauma, shock, and sepsis, through:

Promoting clinically relevant research into the basic biology of trauma, shock, and sepsis
Providing a multidisciplinary forum to integrate and disseminate new knowledge in trauma, shock, and sepsis
Promoting the education and mentoring of the next generation of investigators in the field of trauma, shock, and sepsis.

Eligibility Requirements

A member of the US Shock Society or International Shock Society who will perform the proposed research at an institution within the United States.
Obtain a doctoral degree or its equivalent, such as but not limited to M.D., Ph.D., DDS, DMD, D.O., DC, OD, DVM, or PharmD.
If the candidate is a post-doctoral investigator (who obtains a Ph.D. degree), the individual needs to be within 4 years of being hired at his/her institution.
If the candidate is a resident/clinical fellow (who obtains MD or equivalent degree), the individual must still be in his/her residency or fellowship training program at the time of submission.
The application must have a letter from their chair stating that they will have at least 75% research time without clinical activity.
Identify a research mentor who is an established investigator is desirable.
The awardee is required to present at the Shock Society meeting for the two years subsequent to receiving the award.
The awardee will have one year tenure on the Awards and Honors Committee.
