Dr. Styliani Geronikolou is a Researcher C (Assistant Professor Level) in the University Research Institute of Maternal & Child Health and Precision Medicine National & Kapodistrian of Athens University Medical School and this program reflects her expertise. However, these classes will be independently hosted and not endorsed by or affiliated with the University. Certificates issued will note her affiliation but do not imply university endorsement. Participants will receive a guided research project and meet with her every week for mentorship, progress tracking, and advanced discussions. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own datasets or research problems and apply the learned techniques in real time to generate meaningful results under expert guidance.
This six module online program is designed to guide participants through the entire lifecycle of research based on small samples. From formulating a research question to publishing in peer-reviewed journals, this fellowship offers step-by-step training for those aiming to build skills in designing, executing, and communicating small-sampled studies.
· Small-sample study design principles
· Power analysis and sample size estimation for limited data. Power enhancement through data pooling and matched designs
· Optimal design for pilot and feasibility studies
· CONSORT, STROBE, ARRIVE, and PRISMA guidelines for small-sample studies
· Randomization and stratification with small groups, Sequential and adaptive design approaches, N-of-1 and single-case experimental designs
· Environmental exposure modeling with sparse measurements
· Sensitivity analyses for model dependence and uncertainty
· Non-parametric tests, Small Samples Evaluator SSEv and Hedge’s g
· Bootstrapping and Monte Carlo simulation for design validation
· Publication bias and small-study bias detection (Egger’s test, funnel plots, trim-and-fill, p-curve)
· Design and analysis of animal and cell-based studies with small replicates
· Repeated-measures ANOVA and mixed models with small n
· Bootstrapped confidence intervals for effect sizes
· Open data and reproducibility tools (GitHub, OSF, Zenodo), Transparent reporting of uncertainty and limitations
· Sensitivity and robustness reporting frameworks
· Data visualization techniques for small-sample results
