Dr. Yong Kyu Kim, MD, PhD, is a Korean board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with nearly three decades of clinical experience. He received his M.D. from Inje University College of Medicine and his Ph.D. from Yonsei University College of Medicine. He previously served as Chief and Assistant Professor in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Inje University Ilsan Paik Hospital, and later as Director of Apgujung YK Plastic Surgery Clinic. He is an ISAPS Mentor and has also served as a consultant doctor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at Bundang Seoul National University. Dr. Kim specializes in facial contouring surgery, aesthetic facial bone procedures, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, and facial rejuvenation. He has published widely in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, including work on mandibular angle reduction, facial contouring, ptosis correction, and intraoral facial procedures, and has participated as faculty at multiple ISAPS international meetings. He is currently based in Shanghai and Seoul and is interested in providing structured fellowship and observership training for physicians seeking advanced education in aesthetic facial surgery.

Curriculum

Sample 2-Week Fellowship / Observership Curriculum

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Day 1

Introduction to the fellowship program and clinic workflow
One-hour lecture: principles of facial contouring surgery
Operating room observation
Basic skills session: one-hand tie technique

Days 2–5

Daily participation in the operating room
Observation of facial contouring and related aesthetic procedures
Preoperative case review and surgical planning discussion
Postoperative rounding and review of recovery protocols
End-of-week discussion session covering case selection, operative strategy, pearls, and complications

Week 2

Continued operating room participation each day
Advanced case discussions focused on decision-making and technical details
Supervised operating room assistance where appropriate and institutionally permitted
Opportunity to perform basic intraoral suturing under direct supervision, where permitted
Ongoing discussion of perioperative management and clinical judgment in facial aesthetic surgery

Final wrap-up discussion and Q&A

Approximate Case Volume over 4 Weeks: 60 surgical cases. Fellows will observe during the first week and may assist from the second week onward, depending on their experience level and local regulatory approval
