INOV (Institut Niçois Orthopédique & Vertébral) is a surgeon-led centre of excellence dedicated to the
locomotor system — hip, knee, sports, trauma and spine. The fellowship takes place at Saint-George
Private Hospital in Nice (Cimiez), frequently ranked among the best private hospitals in France: more than
350 MCO beds, 100 rehabilitation beds, an emergency department and 18 operating rooms — the largest
private hospital in our area.
INOV was founded by a collective of four associate surgeons who chose to work differently: more structured,
more collaborative, more demanding. Rather than fragmented individual practice, the visiting fellow is
integrated into a coordinated team with shared standards, cross-specialty decision-making and continuous
improvement. In concrete terms, this means broader case exposure, structured supervision and direct
mentoring across the full locomotor spectrum within a single institute.
INOV also works in partnership with other surgeons of Saint-George Private Hospital, giving the fellow
exposure to a wide variety of techniques and complex cases — while our own programme remains firmly
focused on orthopaedic surgery of the lower limb.
The founding collective
Dr. Arnaud Clavé Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery — host (hip & knee arthroplasty, robotic surgery)
Dr. Thomas Ripoll Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery — hip, knee, sports surgery
Dr. Rémi Poncer Orthopaedic & Spine Surgery
Dr. Florent Pennes Neurosurgery & Spine Surgery
Fellowship in Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery, built on INOV’s fields of expertise:
• Hip and Knee Arthroplasty
• Joint and Sports Surgery
• Computer-Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery (CAOS) and Robotic Surgery
Our core domain is Knee Arthroplasty — particularly Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty, knee
biomechanics and computer-assisted / robotic orthopaedic surgery. We also have extensive experience in
Hip Arthroplasty (Direct Anterior Approach) and Enhanced Recovery (ERAS) pathways. During
rotations, the fellow is also exposed to sports surgery and casual trauma, and — through INOV’s combined
orthopaedic and spine team — to spine pathology of the locomotor system.
INOV brings together orthopaedic, sports and spine surgeons within a single coordinated institute,
embedded in a department comprising senior orthopaedic surgeons, spine surgeons and hand surgeons.
Through our partnership with other surgeons of Saint-George Private Hospital, the fellow gains exposure to
varied techniques and complex cases, while the programme stays strongly oriented towards lower-limb
orthopaedics. Clinical activity the fellow will observe and assist with (under supervision) is focused on:
• Hip and knee arthroplasty — mini-Moore and Direct Anterior / Hueter approach; Uni-Knee and
Total Knee; CAOS, robotic assistance and PSI
• Robotic and computer-assisted knee arthroplasty — planning, execution and validation workflows
• Knee sports surgery — arthroscopy, meniscal repair, ACL reconstruction and repair
• Spine pathology — assessment and surgical indication (combined ortho-spine team)
• Trauma of the locomotor system (casual)
Beyond technique, the fellow learns INOV’s structured clinical method: listen, examine, explain, deliberate in
cross-specialty review when warranted, decide a proportionate indication, perform, then protocol and
coordinate post-operative care and return to activity / sport.
Can be customised.
• Default structure: 4-week visiting fellowship
• Optional extension: up to 12 weeks
• Occasional short visit: 2 weeks (by arrangement)
• Positions offered for 2026–2027: 2 to 4 fellows
The fellow follows the host’s clinical week — operating-room sessions, consultations and multidisciplinary
case discussions — with structured supervision from the INOV collective across hip, knee, sports, robotic
and spine activity.
Nice offers a wide range of short-stay options. We suggest airbnb.com for low-cost accommodation; central
areas such as Jean-Médecin connect to the hospital by public transport in roughly 20 minutes. The host can
provide an invitation / recommendation letter to support visa and travel arrangements.

Most participants rated the Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery program 5/5, citing its significant impact on their professional and academic trajectories. The program is lauded for its high-quality mentorship, robust research opportunities, and networking benefits.
I had the opportunity to complete my Arthroplasty, Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine
Fellowship under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Pietro S. Randelli at the Istituto Ortopedico Gaetano Pini CTO, University of Milan, Italy. The fellowship proved to be an extremely fruitful andacademically enriching experience. Prof. Randelli is an exceptional mentor-highly knowledgeable, approachable, and deeply committed to teaching. His friendly and encouraging attitude greatly enhanced the learning environment. The entire orthopedic team, including consultants, postgraduate students, and support staff, were very welcoming and cooperative, contributing to an excellent academic atmosphere. The institute is a premier orthopedic center equipped with advanced facilities, where numerous technically challenging and complex
procedures are performed routinely. Grateful to Prof. Randelli and the entire team for such a wonderful academic and cultural experience.
Overall, the experience was great. Very good hospital with a wide variety of cases- Hip, Knee, Shoulder. Apart from my guide DR ARNAUD CLAUVE who was very friendly and knowledgable, other colleagues of his were also very cooperative. Nice in itself is a very great tourist destination, hence evening walk through the lanes and roads was great.
Highlight was the Direct anterior approach to Hip, basically for which I had visited the place and the surgeon and his colleagues gave a very good exposure.
I dont think there is much scope of improvement and the course is great overall.
I applied for a Business visa, which was easily granted from my home country and Dr Arnaud also gave me a recommendation letter for invitation which helped smoothen the process.
I stayed in AirBNB near Jean-Médecin, which is quite the centre of the city and used public transport with a pass to reach the hospital and transportation time was appx 20 mins.
Overall rating- 4.5/5.
