Review and selection process
Announcement
Because EAS offers multiple funding types with slightly different focus areas, the success predictors vary by type — but several common themes emerge across schemes:
Whether applying for project support, a fellowship, or an award, your work must be clearly rooted in atherosclerosis biology, pathophysiology, clinical outcomes, cardiovascular risk, lipid metabolism, or related metabolic disturbances.
For publication-based awards (e.g., Young Investigator Awards), the scientific advance of the paper itself matters. EAS
For project support, your research hypothesis and aims should target gaps in atherosclerosis knowledge or implementation. EAS
Success tip: Explicitly frame your research questions within the broader context of cardiovascular and metabolic disease impact.
For fellowship and travel grants tied to the EAS Congress, selection is competitive and strongly influenced by the quality of your submitted abstract and the scientific soundness of your presentation.
Ensure your abstract is clear, hypothesis-driven (vs. descriptive), and uses rigorous methods. EAS
Success tip: Draft and revise your abstract to emphasize novelty, methodological rigor, and relevance to the meeting theme.
Many EAS grants support early‐career investigators (e.g., ≤ 35 yrs for fellowships), so demonstrating your commitment to atherosclerosis research, signs of independence, and potential to become a leader in the field strengthens your application. EAS
Success predictors include:
Evidence of first-author publications
Past participation in scientific meetings
Clear description of career goals related to atherosclerosis
Active involvement with EAS (membership, attending Congress, participating in committees, or workshops) signals commitment and enhances eligibility for many awards and travel grants. Facebook
Success predictor: Maintain up-to-date membership and engage in society activities before applying.
For project or early-career funding:
Present a lucid explanation of how your project will progress the field. EAS
When applicable, describe mentorship and how the funding will help you build research independence.
Success tip: Include measurable aims, timelines, and indicators of success.
For educational travel grants, applications that demonstrate financial need or barriers to attendance (especially from low-resource countries) are competitive — as these schemes are designed to enhance inclusion. EAS
Success predictor: Provide succinct but persuasive justification of financial need.
For awards like the Young Investigator Awards, the impact of your publications (e.g., journals, citation influence, novelty of findings) is paramount. EAS
Success tip: Choose your strongest, newly published work for nomination and emphasize its advancement of atherosclerosis science.
💡 For Competitive Early Career Research Grants
Confirm you meet eligibility criteria (often early career / member status). EAS
Provide a clear research plan with hypotheses, methods, and expected impact.
Tailor the application to show how the funds will enable a specific milestone in early atherosclerosis research.
🎤 For Young Investigator Fellowships & Travel Grants
Submit your abstract early and polish it for clarity and scientific relevance. EAS
Highlight why attending the Congress benefits your career and scientific development.
🏆 For Awards (e.g., Young Investigator or Anitschkow Prize)
Nominate work that’s both high-impact and recent. EAS
Clearly articulate the scientific advance and relevance to the atherosclerosis/metabolic field.
