General requirements

  • Abstracts for oral/poster presentations must be submitted online to the WCD Abstract Platform by 14 September 2026.
  • Applicants must indicate their interest in scholarships during abstract submission and upload one or more documents proving their eligibility. Applications will be evaluated in all categories for which the applicant may be eligible. Only one scholarship application may be submitted per presenting author.
  • English language is mandatory: abstracts, oral and/or poster presentations and all supporting documentations must be in English.
  • Applicants must participate in at least one World Congress scientific activity such as an oral and/or poster presentation.
  • Only the presenting author of the abstract is eligible to apply for scholarship. Scholarships are strictly personal and non‑transferable. In the event of a change of presenting author, the scholarship cannot be transferred to the replacement presenter or to any co‑author.
  • Applicants must not already be supported by industry. The committee reserves the right to rescind scholarships to awardees whose attendance were supported by industry.

AI Based Application Success Predictor

1. High-quality scientific abstract (Highest Predictor ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

The most important factor is the quality of the submitted scientific abstract.

Competitive abstracts should demonstrate:

  • Original research
  • Scientific rigor
  • Clinical or scientific significance
  • Clear methodology
  • Well-supported conclusions
  • Relevance to dermatology

If scholarship applicants receive the same eligibility score, abstract quality is the deciding factor.

2. Merit-based scientific excellence (Highest Predictor ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Scholarships are awarded based on merit and need.

Competitive applicants should demonstrate:

  • Strong scientific contribution
  • High-quality research
  • Potential impact on dermatology
  • Clear presentation of results

Scientific excellence is central to the WCD review process.

3. Eligibility within priority applicant categories (Highest Predictor ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

WCD gives priority to applicants in specific categories:

  • Dermatology residents
  • Fellows
  • Rising Stars (young dermatologists)
  • Dermatologists from World Bank Low-, Lower-Middle-, or Upper-Middle-Income countries

These categories receive weighted scoring during scholarship evaluation.

4. Active participation in the scientific programme (Highest Predictor ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Applicants must actively contribute to the Congress through:

  • Oral presentations
  • Poster presentations

Only the presenting author of an accepted abstract is eligible for a scholarship. Passive attendance alone is not sufficient.

5. Career stage and professional potential (Very High Predictor ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

The WCD particularly supports:

  • Residents
  • Fellows
  • Early-career dermatologists
  • Rising Stars (generally under 40 years of age)

Supporting the next generation of dermatology leaders is a key objective of the scholarship program.

6. Demonstrated financial need and geographic diversity (Very High Predictor ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

The scholarship program promotes global participation by prioritizing applicants from:

  • Low-income countries
  • Lower-middle-income countries
  • Upper-middle-income countries

This helps broaden international representation at the Congress.

7. Complete eligibility documentation (Very High Predictor ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Applicants should provide all required documentation, such as:

  • Proof of trainee status (if applicable)
  • Proof of age or career stage (for Rising Star applicants)
  • Employment verification
  • Supporting institutional letters

Incomplete documentation can affect eligibility.

8. Strong institutional endorsement (High Predictor ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆)

For many applicant categories, supporting letters from:

  • Department Chairs
  • Program Directors
  • Heads of Department

strengthen the application by confirming academic standing and professional potential.

9. English-language scientific communication (High Predictor ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆)

All scholarship materials—including:

  • Abstracts
  • Oral presentations
  • Posters
  • Supporting documents

must be submitted in English. Clear, high-quality scientific communication improves competitiveness.

10. Compliance with WCD scholarship rules (High Predictor ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆)

Competitive applicants must:

  • Submit only one scholarship application
  • Be the presenting author
  • Attend the Congress in person
  • Not receive industry sponsorship for attendance
  • Meet all submission deadlines

Failure to comply with these requirements may result in ineligibility.

Types of scholarships and eligibility requirements

  • WCD Trainee Scholarship: an applicant who is in training in dermatology as a resident or fellow (medical students are not eligible for scholarships). Scholarship applicants who are trainees must submit verification of their training status, such as a letter from the Department Head or Program Director;
  • WCD Rising Star Scholarship: a dermatologist under the age of 40 as of December 31, 2027 and not at the rank of Full Professor. Scholarship applicants must provide their Identity Card/Passport and an official letter on institutional letterhead confirming the applicant’s professional value and recognition, signed by the Head of Department or another authorized authority;
  • WCD Dermatologist Scholarship: certified dermatologists employed in one of the countries defined by the World Bank as Low Income – Lower-Middle Income – Upper Middle Income.
