Stem Cell Network Summer Studentships 2025

Stem Cell Network

Stem Cell Network Summer Studentships 2025

Application Deadline: March 12, 2025
Start Date: May 2025 – June 2025
Location: Various Canadian Academic Institutions

The SCN Summer Studentship program will support excellent senior undergraduate students to undertake stem cells and regenerative medicine research between May 2025 and August 2025 at a Canadian academic institution. Undergraduate students who have completed their third year of undergraduate studies will be prioritized for this award. This support is intended to help recruit and retain highly promising undergraduate students into the field of stem cells and regenerative medicine. The cohort of undergraduate summer students supported in the 2025 competition will present their project progress at a virtual SCN summer studentship symposium hosted in late August 2025, and the top undergraduate will be supported by SCN to attend and present a poster of their research work at the November 3-5, 2025 Till and McCulloch Meetings (TMM2025) in Ottawa.

Award Details:
SCN will provide $5,000 to supplement the cost of a summer studentship. Up to 10 awards are available for Summer 2025. Students applying for the SCN Summer Studentship program must have a letter of support from their prospective summer supervisor and provide a copy of their transcript. SCN and a chosen committee will review and rank the applications for the program. Additionally, SCN will consider regional representation and apply equity, diversity and inclusion principles when selecting successful applicants.

How to Apply

  • Complete the application form here by March 12, 2025. As part of the application form, you will need to email a copy of your current transcript and CV to trainingSCN@stemcellnetwork.ca. The application form also requires a short description of your summer research project and the project must be focused on stem cells and/or regenerative medicine.
  • In addition to completing the application form, SCN requires two letters of support:
    1. A letter from your prospective summer supervisor confirming their support of your application;
    2. A reference letter from another professor who has known you during your undergraduate degree (e.g. a previous research supervisor, or a professor from whom you have taken a course).
  • Letters of support should be e-mailed directly to trainingSCN@stemcellnetwork.ca at the point of submission of your online application. A confirmation email will be sent within 24 hours of SCN receiving the support letters by email. If a confirmation email is NOT received from SCN within 24 hours of submission it is the responsibility of the applicant to contact SCN and ensure that all application materials have been received by SCN.
  • The SCN Training & Education Committee will review the applications, and applicants will be informed of the competition outcome by April 11, 2025. Notification of acceptance for successful applicants will include further details on terms and conditions of the award.

  • At the time of application, applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate program in the life sciences (e.g. Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields) at a Canadian institution.
  • Applicants must have support from a prospective supervisor for the summer studentship.
  • Proposed projects must be in the research area of stem cells and regenerative medicine.
  • The prospective summer studentship supervisor must meet the eligibility criteria for Tri-Agency funding.
  • Applicants are required to have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 or an equivalent score. To assist in the evaluation process, applicants from institutions not using a 4.0 scale should convert their GPA to the 4.0 scale using the OMSAS conversion table. This applies to transcripts that originally used numeric, percentage, or alpha grading scales.
