The SITC Women in Cancer Immunotherapy Network (WIN) Leadership Institute is a two-day program and networking forum championed by SITC’s first female president, Lisa H. Butterfield, PhD.
Accepted applicants explore topics like gender equity, work-life balance, negotiation skills, team building and other leadership development strategies.
Apply today to network and share your experiences with emerging women leaders in cancer immunotherapy from clinical settings, industry, pharma, government and academia.
How To Organize Your Application
I. Applicant's Career Stage: In 50 words or less, please state your career stage relative to your terminal degree (for example: 2 years in current position, after a 3 year postdoc, which is 5 years since my PhD degree; or 2 years in current position after a 3 year residency in internal medicine and 3 years of oncology subspecialty training which is 8 years since my MD degree; or 5 years in my current position after completion of my PharmD, MBA, etc.)
II. Applicant's Statement of Benefit: In 50 words or less, please state why your career development would benefit from attending this event.
III. Proof of Student / Fellow Status: Proof of student/fellow status or years out from such status can be provided through a letter or transcript from the institution at which the applicant completed this work.
Selection Criteria
Selection is made by the SITC WIN Leadership Institute Program Co-Organizers. Applicants will be notified via email of their application’s acceptance or decline.
Program Co-Organizers will consider the following in their selection of applicants:
Priority will be given to applicants who are early in their independent professional careers or who are re-entering the workforce.
While not a requirement, SITC membership and participation in SITC programs or opportunities will be considered during the review process. Membership is a requirement for travel award applicants.
At present, SITC does not publish a formal set of quantitative success predictors (e.g., scoring rubrics, priority weightings) for its fellowship or award programs — at least not in publicly accessible evaluation guidelines comparable to major funding agencies.
Instead, SITC funding decisions generally reflect standard peer assessment and eligibility criteria, such as:
✅ Alignment With Career Stage and Mission
Applicants must fit program requirements (e.g., early-career status, relevance to immunotherapy research) and demonstrate a commitment to advancing the field.
✅ Scientific & Clinical Relevance
For fellowships, projects or training plans that clearly advance cancer immunotherapy science or clinical application tend to be implicitly prioritized — though formal scoring metrics are not published.
✅ Membership & Eligibility Compliance
Many awards require applicants be current SITC members in good standing, and provide required documentation (CV, mentor information, letters).
✅ Peer Evaluation
Fellowship and award selections are typically made by committees familiar with cancer immunotherapy science; strong proposals tend to show potential impact, rigor, and feasibility — even though numerical scoring rubrics may not be public.
SITC does provide financial support and recognition through fellowships and young investigator/award programs aimed at advancing careers in cancer immunotherapy research.
Formal public “grant success predictors” (like scoring rubrics) are not currently published by SITC in the same way that large research funders do.
Implicit factors that likely contribute to success include:
Relevance of training or research to immunotherapy
Early-career investigator status and mentor support
Clear alignment with SITC goals of advancing cancer immunotherapy science
Meeting eligibility and application requirements (e.g., membership).
This program is open to female applicants only. Applicants must currently work in the field of cancer immunotherapy or be interested in starting a career in the field. If you have attended past WIN programs, you are not eligible to apply.
In addition, applicants must fit one of the following criteria:
