Roche Canada Funding Request

Roche Canada

At Roche Canada, patients and science are at the heart of everything we do. Thus, we welcome opportunities to invest in initiatives and collaborate with organizations that drive healthcare forward. We are committed to delivering meaningful benefits to patients and a sustainable healthcare system.

Funding Opportunities

Roche Canada offers funding support in the form of sponsorships, grants, and international conference support (ICS).

We prioritize funding requests that:

  1. Align with our focus areas and create opportunities in new areas, like artificial intelligence, innovation and real world evidence.
  2. Improve patient care and outcomes.
  3. Advance medical research and education.

Roche Canada also offers funding support in the form of philanthropic donations. We consider requests that explicitly align with our approach to philanthropy, which is rooted in a deep dedication to creating a better future for all.

We look to make a difference in these four areas:

  1. Humanitarian and Social Projects
  2. Science and Education Projects
  3. Culture and Arts Projects
  4. Community and Environment Projects

Applications for all four funding types are accepted throughout the year.

Evaluation Process

Every funding request received will be evaluated separately for alignment with Roche’s funding policy (including the Innovative Medicines Canada (IMC) code). Previous support by Roche for a similar request does not guarantee future support; and depending on the nature of the request, only partial support may be provided.

For information on the evaluation process, please review our process maps.

Submission Tips

Unfortunately, Roche is unable to support all funding request submissions. For funding consideration, please ensure that your submission has met all the relevant requirements and detailed information about the proposed initiative is provided.

As a reminder, only applications submitted through our online portal will be reviewed.

We highly recommend that applications for funding support be submitted as early as possible. For international conference support, applications must be submitted at least 45 days in advance of the conference start date. For other funding requests or conferences, please submit your application at least 60 days in advance of the start date to allow our teams adequate time to thoroughly review your request. Please note that a written agreement must be in place before the initiative/conference start date.

AI Based Application Success Predictor

1. Strong alignment with Roche therapeutic priorities ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is the most important predictor.

Competitive proposals should closely match:

  • Roche's therapeutic areas
  • The specific funding call
  • Medical or educational gaps identified by Roche
  • Areas of high unmet medical need
  • Roche's strategic healthcare priorities

Roche Canada explicitly states that funding requests are prioritized when they align with its areas of interest and create opportunities in areas such as AI, innovation, and real-world evidence.

2. Clear improvement in patient care and outcomes ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Roche places strong emphasis on projects that can:

  • Improve patient outcomes
  • Improve diagnosis
  • Improve treatment
  • Enhance quality of care
  • Improve the patient journey
  • Address barriers to healthcare

A direct connection between the proposed initiative and measurable patient benefit substantially strengthens an application.

3. Addressing an important unmet medical need ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Strong proposals clearly identify an existing gap, such as:

  • Unmet treatment needs
  • Delayed diagnosis
  • Lack of healthcare professional knowledge
  • Treatment access barriers
  • Disease-management gaps
  • Healthcare-system inefficiencies
  • Evidence gaps

Roche specifically indicates that it prefers investments that address high unmet medical needs.

4. Scientific and medical quality ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

For research-related requests, competitive applications should demonstrate:

  • Strong scientific rationale
  • Appropriate study design
  • Reliable methodology
  • Relevant preliminary evidence where appropriate
  • Appropriate outcome measures
  • Qualified investigators

Roche supports investigator-initiated clinical studies, including Phase I–IV interventional studies, as well as observational and real-world evidence studies in relevant therapeutic areas.

5. Innovation and novel approaches ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Roche Canada specifically identifies innovation and artificial intelligence among areas where it is interested in new opportunities.

Competitive proposals may involve:

  • AI and machine learning
  • Digital health
  • Personalized medicine
  • Novel diagnostics
  • Precision healthcare
  • Real-world data
  • New models of healthcare delivery

6. Personalized healthcare and real-world evidence ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Projects that use real-world evidence or support personalized healthcare can be particularly well aligned with Roche's current strategy.

Examples include:

  • Real-world clinical data
  • Patient-level outcomes
  • Precision medicine
  • Treatment-response analysis
  • Healthcare utilization studies
  • Evidence generation for clinical decision-making

Roche Canada explicitly identifies personalized healthcare and real-world evidence as areas of increased interest.

7. Strong patient engagement ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

Roche Canada has made patient partnership an important component of its healthcare approach.

Competitive initiatives can demonstrate:

  • Patient involvement in project design
  • Patient-reported outcomes
  • Caregiver engagement
  • Patient advisory groups
  • Patient-centered outcome measures
  • Co-creation with patient organizations

Roche Canada describes patient partnership and lived experience as important elements of its decision-making and healthcare work.

8. Potential for broader healthcare-system impact ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

Strong projects should demonstrate benefits beyond a single institution where possible.

Examples include:

  • Improving healthcare delivery
  • Supporting healthcare professionals
  • Improving access to care
  • Developing transferable educational resources
  • Improving clinical pathways
  • Supporting sustainable healthcare systems

Roche specifically states that it is interested in initiatives that improve the healthcare and patient ecosystem as a whole.

9. Strong investigator/organization capability ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

Competitive applications should demonstrate:

  • Qualified investigators or project leaders
  • Appropriate institutional expertise
  • Relevant clinical/scientific experience
  • Adequate infrastructure
  • Appropriate collaborators
  • Ability to deliver the proposed initiative

For research projects, a credible investigator and capable research environment are especially important.

10. Complete, compliant, and timely application ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

Roche Canada requires funding requests to be submitted through its online funding system.

Applicants should provide:

  • Complete project description
  • Clear objectives
  • Detailed budget
  • Appropriate supporting documentation
  • Eligibility information
  • Appropriate timeline

Roche notes that requests must be submitted through its online portal and recommends submitting sufficiently early for review. For most requests, it recommends at least 60 days before the initiative begins; international conference requests should generally be submitted at least 45 days beforehand.

Roche can only consider funding requests submitted on behalf of and intended for eligible applicants and initiatives.
