| Inclusion Criteria |
Hold an MD/MBChB/MBBS, PhD (or equivalent degree) at time of application submission No more than 10 years have elapsed since the terminal degree Currently working within an academic research institution or public health organization (e.g. Ministry of Health or within a hospital) and be on track to achieve a research scientific appointment, faculty appointment or other equivalent position Have a research mentor in country with extensive experience in the field of HIV and/or viral hepatitis or a discipline relevant to implementation science (e.g. economics, engineering, psychology, anthropology etc.) Be able to devote at least approximately 50% of professional time to research for the next two years (versus administrative, patient care, or teaching responsibilities) Have a strong interest in public health research focused on HIV and/or viral hepatitis Be able to complete the research within the 2-year award period, providing evidence (manuscript, presentation, or abstracts) for future research projects |

Research investigating Gilead product(s) are not eligible for funding through the Research Scholars Program.
Interventional clinical studies or trials involving patient administration of any pharmaceutical drugs Co-principle investigators are not eligible for funding Duplicative funding: the RSP award cannot overlap with other current or pending funding. It can be used to support a larger research project, as long as it supports a specific component of it Applicants on visas shorter than the 2-year award period who cannot provide evidence for the duration of the term for the contract |

The Global Public Health Awards support the development of independent, early career investigators from low and middle-income countries globally with an interest in supporting country driven research priorities to meet sustainable development goals for people infected with or at risk for viral Hepatitis (B,C,D) and/or HIV.

Awards granted under the program may not be duplicative of funding from institutional or hospital, other governmental, non-governmental, or industry sources. Applicants seeking an award for research projects that are currently receiving or may receive partial funding from other sources are required to submit appropriate evidence, including budget information related to the other sources, to demonstrate that there is no direct overlap in funding.
