The Michele Alexander Early Career Award for Scholarship and Service was established in 2005 to recognize early career excellence in scholarship as well as in service.

This award is inspired in memory of Michele Alexander, PhD, a talented scholar and dedicated teacher who brought exceptional insight, passion, and commitment to social issues research. Alexander also gave generously to students, colleagues, and communities through voluntary service.

The award includes:

complimentary one-year Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) membership;
an honorary plaque;
the opportunity to attend a SPSSI-sponsored event alongside the president of the organization, thereby providing the recipient with opportunities for networking and mentorship, a special skill and commitment of Alexander’s.
