The Foundation currently supports CAPITAL projects such as hard costs related to the construction or purchase of new facilities, building renovations and improvements, purchase of capital equipment and furnishings, and other one-time capital needs. (Grants will not be made for leases or rentals of equipment, for subscription-based software, or any other recurring fees.) In recent years, most grant awards have ranged from $5,000 to $20,000.

The Foundation reviews proposals in the order they are received. Because there is a finite amount of funds budgeted for each grants cycle, you are encouraged to submit your proposal early in the application period.

The foundation exclusively funds capital needs, such as:
Building renovations or repairs
Facility upgrades (e.g., HVAC, roofs, accessibility improvements)
Equipment purchases (e.g., medical, educational, technology-related)
Programmatic or operational funding is not supported.
📍 2. Location-Based Eligibility
Only nonprofits that operate in or primarily serve:
New Jersey, or
New York City’s five boroughs
Organizations outside these regions are ineligible.
🏫 3. Strong Community-Serving Mission
Funded organizations often focus on:
Education (especially underserved populations)
Health care
Social services
Youth development
Prior grantees include schools, health centers, shelters, and community organizations.
📄 4. Established Nonprofit Status
Typically supports 501(c)(3) organizations with a stable history of service.
Organizations with well-documented financials and prior grant experience are more successful.
Demonstration of need for capital support and impact of the project is essential.

Applications must clearly describe:
Project timeline
Total project cost and other funding sources
Specific budget use of requested Hyde and Watson funds
Preference for projects ready to begin or already underway.
