We're awarding a number of Travel Grants to help researchers who need financial assistance to attend the conference and present their work as an oral or poster presentation.
Application deadline: 15 February 2027 at 23:59 CET
Each EACR Travel Grant includes a free registration and funds to support travel and accommodation costs. There is no maximum amount you can apply for, but we expect applicants to choose the best value travel and accommodation possible, and we cannot guarantee that we will always be able to cover the full amount that applicants have applied for.
Please DO NOT pay your registration fee for the conference before applying for a Travel Grant. If you are awarded a Travel Grant, your registration will be free and we will arrange this for you. Travel Grants are intended to support researchers who need financial assistance to attend the conference and as such, we will not award a Travel Grant to any applicant who has already paid their registration fee.
How to Apply
Eligible researchers can apply quickly and easily online through our Travel Grants application portal.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Critical
The applicant and proposed research must have a clear cancer focus. EACR fellowships are intended for researchers actively working in cancer research, including academic researchers, industry researchers and clinician/physician-scientists.
Strong areas include:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Critical
EACR fellowship selection explicitly identifies scientific excellence of the candidate as a primary criterion. The review considers the applicant's scientific achievements, including research experience and previous contributions.
A competitive applicant should demonstrate:
The emphasis is on the quality and significance of the applicant's scientific contribution, rather than simply the number of publications.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Critical
EACR's fellowship criteria specifically evaluate the quality, scope, novelty and significance of the proposed research.
A strong project should establish:
Important cancer problem → knowledge gap → novel hypothesis → rigorous approach → meaningful advance
Incremental projects with little potential to change understanding or treatment are less compelling.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very High
EACR's strategic focus covers the entire spectrum from basic research to clinical application. Its conferences and scientific activities intentionally address the full basic-science-to-clinic spectrum.
A strong application should explain whether the research could contribute to:
The expected impact should be proportional to the project and career stage.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very High
For EACR fellowships, the suitability of the host laboratory is one of the primary selection criteria. Reviewers consider whether the host has the expertise, facilities and environment required for the proposed research.
A strong application should show:
The key question is:
Why is this particular host laboratory the right place to perform this cancer research?
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very High
Career development is an explicit objective of EACR fellowships. The EACR-AstraZeneca Postdoctoral Fellowship, for example, is designed to support outstanding early-career researchers and develop the next generation of scientists working in innovative cancer research.
A competitive application should demonstrate:
⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ High
International scientific interaction is central to EACR's model. The Association's network connects cancer researchers across Europe and internationally, while fellowships and travel mechanisms enable researchers to develop collaborations and gain expertise in other laboratories.
A strong mobility proposal should demonstrate:
Home expertise + host expertise → complementary research → new capability → long-term collaboration
The international component should have a genuine scientific purpose rather than simply providing travel.
⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ High
EACR's full fellowship application requires applicants to provide:
Therefore, competitive projects should have:
For a competitive fellowship, ambition must be balanced with feasibility.
⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ High
Different EACR opportunities have substantially different purposes.
For example:
EACR's strategic plan specifically identifies fellowships and travel grants as mechanisms for developing members' skills, knowledge and careers.
Choosing the mechanism that matches the applicant's career stage and objective is therefore important.
⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ High
EACR fellowship guidance asks applicants to provide a dissemination plan, and the EACR-AstraZeneca programme identifies high-impact publications and continued academic interaction as measures of programme success.
A strong proposal should explain:
