The Dr. Barry T. This award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to enhancing patient outcomes and advancing the reputation and practice of interventional radiology through their hard work, commitment and, most importantly, clinical practice. The award is being given in the name of Barry T. Katzen, MD, FSIR, who pioneered clinical practice for IR in 1976 and became a vocal advocate, champion and example for colleagues of the importance of IR being a clinical discipline for advancement of the specialty.

Examples of this dedication may include receiving letters from patients or colleagues, providing patients with personal contact information such as their cell phone when appropriate, and going above and beyond when necessary such as making house calls after procedures.

Continuous improvement: The nominee is actively engaged in ongoing professional development and improvement within the field of interventional radiology. They demonstrate a willingness to learn, adapt and incorporate new techniques, technologies and best practices into their clinical practice to enhance patient care and outcomes.

Impactful contributions: The nominee has made significant contributions to the advancement of interventional radiology and is an ambassador of IR in their institution or practice environment as a result. Whether through clinical innovations, process improvements, or contributions to education and training, their efforts have positively impacted the practice of interventional radiology and the experiences of both patients and colleagues. Clinical IR sheds a positive light on interventional radiologists among other clinicians.
